Not Just Weddings: Tulips

I have been working on a series of floral portraits for a few months now.  All shot on black and white film.   I’ve been using film in most of my personal work.  The film approach is very different from a digital process.   The film camera I use most often is a totally manual, medium format  camera that uses the beautiful 6×6 negatives.   I believe that’s more than 4 times the size of regular 35mm film or the full frame digital sensor.  The results of using a negative this large are images rich with tonality and fine detail.  I love images that you can stare at for some time and pick out all the different details that make up the bigger picture.

I have been doing some traditional darkroom printing for sometime now in a community darkroom.   I’m still learning, since I haven’t done traditional printing in a long time.  My goal is to get this series and the other film series I’ve been working on beautifully printed and exhibited in a local gallery show.
